Benny joined the Northeast Library Celebrity Reader Day to encourage kids to read. The Street Team enthusiastically read “Winners Never Quit” by Mia Hamm to a group of children and their families. Many of the kids wore their soccer jerseys in support of the evening with Benny and they painted a fun welcoming sign for the Brigade.
The library has teamed with local “celebrities” to interact with the children once a month at their library. They read one or two stories and then tell the kids a little bit about their careers and how reading influences them in their daily life. The library then has a drawing for prizes and the kids are encouraged to find a library book to check out to read at home.
“This is a creative way that the library is promoting the importance of reading to our youth as well as introducing them to different members of their community”, stated Juan Moran, Director of Community Affairs for the Bakersfield Brigade.
