The Bakersfield Brigade Under-20 (U20) Men’s team announce today that they have clinched the Northern California Conference Group (A) Title this past Sunday after an impressive 3-1 victory over the San Francisco Seals Academy. By clinching the title, the Brigade secured one of the two available spots for the Super Y-League North American Finals being held in Epping, New Hampshire on August 2-5.
“We are very exited to have the opportunity to compete at the highest level an to be in the Finals,” Stated Brigade U20 Head Coach Joe Montoya. “The commitment that these boys have made to travel 8 hours on game day is a true testament of their passion for the game, and their dedication and hard work has paid off,” added Montoya.
The Brigade U20’s are in their first season of play in the United Soccer leagues (USL) Super-20’s League. Due to an absence of Super 20 teams within the Southern California Region, the Brigade received an invitation by the USL, to play in their Northern California Conference but were required to travel to all games throughout their scheduled season. The Brigade U20s finished their regular season schedule by winning 2-of-3 of their last three games, including notable wins over Santa Cruz County Breakers (4-1) and San Francisco Seals Academy (3-1). “We hope that we can take this momentum into the North American Finals and have a good showing on behalf of the club,” stated Montoya.
The flawless facilities of Seacoast United Soccer Complex, in Epping, New Hampshire, will once again play host to the Super Y-League North American Finals which kicks off Thursday, August 2nd and runs through Sunday, August 5th. The Super Y-League North American Finals assembles the best of the best from each conference. Teams qualify from their respective regions, Midwest, Mid Atlantic, New England, South Atlantic, Southeast, and Pacific No. California, for the ultimate chance of facing the best from around North America and become league champions.
The Brigade U20 will be joined by DVSC in representing the Pacific North California region and the Brigade are confident they will have a good showing in the finals.
