BAKERSFIELD, CA, May 17th, 2006 – The Bakersfield Brigade Youth Soccer Club (
www.bbysc.com), announced today their requirements and deliverables for the College Premier Team’s program. The College Premier Team’s program is a college preparatory soccer program with an academic as well as athletic focus. These teams will compete at the highest levels possible in order to prepare their players for top level college competition and will match that level of soccer competition with academic effort. The goal of the program is to produce well-rounded, student-athletes that are prepared to take the college leap.
The teams will train for two hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights. This training will consist of technical and tactical development sessions, scrimmages, physical fitness, game analysis, and tactical classroom sessions. Attendance is mandatory and unexcused absences will result in game suspensions. The College Premier Teams will be coached by the BBYSC’s Co-Technical Directors, Joe Montoya and Francis Gangle, as well as BBYSC Director of Coaching, Greg Knittel and Premier Development League player and youth coach, Kyle Gookins.
The program will also have a Wednesday night study hall. The study hall will consist of an hour and a half of core-subjects tutoring, SAT Prep, or college-specific workshops. 75% attendance is required of the players for the study hall and special workshop nights are mandatory attendance.
Academic progress monitoring will also be an important part of the program. The players will be required to supply the coaches with grade checks every four weeks. A failure to keep a 2.5 GPA with a “C” or better in all Math, History, Social Science, Biology, Physical Science, Foreign Language, and Visual or Performing Arts courses will result in game suspensions.
Tryouts for the College Premier Teams will be held May 23, 24, and 25 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at Liberty Park (on the corner of Brimhall and Jewetta). Players’ birthdates must be on or after August 1, 1988 for eligibility. The Bakersfield Brigade Youth Soccer Club is a competitive organization that includes over 20 teams ages Under 11 through Under 19 years old.
