07-21-05 Seahorses Spoiled, Brigade Wins 3-1
Bakersfield, Calif., July 21, 2005 – In La Mirada, CA., the Brigade spoiled the Seahorses last home game of their season by dominating them throughout the game and earning a decisive 3-1 victory.

The contest started out a little sluggish with both teams attempting to take control of one another early, but the seahorses managed to strike first in the 16th minute and got a shot in the back of the net against Brigade keeper Vincent Licciarde. The Brigade fired back with their own score six minutes later as Brigade forward John Carson feed fellow forward Lyle Martin who took the shot and blasted it past Seahorse keeper Tyler Kettering. Both teams went into the half tied 1-1.

In the second half, the Brigade and Seahorses battled for thirty-six minutes without a score. But in the 72nd minute, Lyle Martin got his second score of the night with another great shot past Seahorse keeper Kettering. Brigade defender Javier Barba received the assist for the goal.

With the Seahorses trailing now 2-1, they found themselves in a position of desperation. Brigade forward Klye Gookins broke through the Seahorse defense and was threatening the Seahorse’s goal. With one Seahorse defender tugging at his jersey, Seahorse keeper Kettering wiped out Gookins in the box and the Brigade was awarded a Penalty Kick for the altercation. For the second consecutive game, Brigade Defender Jason Das Carter stepped up and put the PK away to ice the game in the 88th minute of play.

The Brigade record is now (5-8-2) and will wrap up their inaugural season this Saturday as they host California Gold of Modesto (4-9-2) at Bakersfield Christian High School. Game time is 7:30pm with gates opening up at 7:00pm. FREE souvenir programs will be handed out at the game.
