Bakersfield, Calif., June 24, 2005 – In a non-league friendly match, the Brigade bounce back for losing three straight, with a dominating 4-2 win over the Arizona Sahuaros.
The game started off well for the Sahuaros who traveled into Bakersfield from Arizona, as they scored the opening goal in the 6th minute of play. Arizona’s Ugljesa Vrbica found the back of the net, as his shot on goal was just out of the reach of backup Brigade keeper, Vincent Licciardi. This was Licciardi’s first game with the Brigade, as Brigade starting keeper Brandon Hearron took the night off.
The Brigade answered back quickly by scoring their first of four goals one minute after Vrbica’s goal, shot taken and scored by Brigade forward Moy Gomez. However, Moy hadn’t felt as though he had been contributing lately, so he went ahead and scored another goal in the 22nd minute of play to give the Brigade a 2-1. Scoring in the 33rd minute of play, Brigade Forward Edgar Montero blasted a shot into the net, far out of the reach of the Sahuaros keeper. Just as the Brigade took a dominating 3-1 lead, Arizona’s showed great poise and effort and scored in the 35th minute, shot scored by Sahuaros forward Manuel Coelho, taking the Brigade lead down to one goal and into halftime.
The second half of play was totally dominated by the Brigade, as midfielder Leon Sharf scored the final goal of the game in the 66th minute of play, putting the Brigade up 4-2, which is where the game ended.
The Brigade travel this Friday June 24 to Orange County to play the undefeated Bluestar team, then to San Diego on Sunday June 26th, where they will take on the winless Gauchos.
On June 2nd, the Brigade will host Fresno Fuego at Bakersfield Christian High School and immediately following the game, will host an INDEPENDENCE FIREWORK SHOW for the fans at no additional charge.
