06-04-05 Brigade Falls to Fuego 4-2 in OT
Bakersfield, Calif., June 4, 2005 – Fuegos’ Edgardo Contreras-Salazar scores a “hat-trick” as the Brigade come up short for the second day in a row and lose to Fresno Fuego 4-2 in overtime.

The Brigade started the scoring drive with a goal by forward Kyle Gookins in the 5th minute of the second half, John Carson picked up the assist. However, the Brigade lead didn’t last long as Contreras-Salazar fired back and scored the first of his three goals within two minutes of Gookins’ goal.
The second Brigade goal was scored by Fabian Sandoval on a “free kick” with approximately 15 minutes to play in regulation. Again though, the lead didn’t last long as Contreras-Salazar put in another one to end regulation play with a 2-2 tie, which sent the game into overtime play.
Once in overtime, the Brigade appeared to feel the effects of playing back-to-back games over the weekend, as Fuego capitalized with two additional scores to capture the win.

“We definitely lost our wheels in the overtime play,” stated Brigade coach Jay Gore. “Fresno had the upper hand as they were well rested for our match today,” added Gore. The Brigade played the night before and lost a tough battle with the BYU Cougars 1-0. Fresno did not play on Saturday.
