05-07-05 Brigade Suffer an Early Defeat 1-0
Modesto, Calif., May 7, 2005 - In the Brigade’s first league game of their inaugural season, they battled hard but came up short and the California Gold took the opener by a score of 1-0.

In the first 10 minutes the ball was played quickly over the top catching the Brigade defense flat footed.  Brandon Hearron was left one-on-one with the Cal-Gold forward making a great save to his right denied the Albert Martins shot.  On a poorly defended set piece from about 40 yards out Jimmy Hall fouled Cal Gold player Adrian Gregorio.  The ball was floated into the goal area, John Domingo headed the ball to Bertin Loyoca and the Cal Gold forward put the ball away with his right foot just clearing the cross bar.  This is the fifth goal the Brigade has allowed on free kicks.  “Terrible” said Jay Gore when asked about the defending of free kicks.  “We have got to get better if we plan on contending in this league.” said Gore.   Brigade had its opportunity when in the 75th minute Kevin Saiki stole the ball and threaded a pass to Jason Ashurst.  Ashurst then beat two Cal Gold defenders down the left side before passing to Moy Gomez who was fouled in the box.  Kyle Gookins took the penalty kick and missed high over the goal post.

Notes: Brigade had 4 shots on goal and 16 fouls. Cal Gold had 3 shots and 18 fouls. Next game for Brigade is May 14th in Bakersfield at Bakersfield Christian High School at 7:30.
