Modesto, Calif., April 9, 2005 – Bakersfield Brigade played its first game Saturday Night in Modesto against California Gold. Beating the Gold 6-0. “I was very happy with our possession tonight, we did a great job of possessing the ball” said head coach Gore. “This was the first time these guys played together and I felt that they moved the ball well”. The first goal came from a cross by Johnny Carson at the 32 minute mark, to Edgar Montero who headed the ball in. Five minutes later Javier Cervantes blasted a rocket from 28 yards out upper “V”. Brigade went into the locker room with a 2-0 lead. It didn’t take long for Brigade to score again. This time on a misplayed ball by the California gold right back. Javier took the ball striking a liner that hit inside the right post for his second goal at the 46 minute mark. Cal Gold were then reduced to 10 men after a second yellow card offense at the 57th minute mark. In the 65th minute, Johnny Carson was put through one on one with the keeper but a Cal Gold defender dragged Carson down for the second ejection of the night. On the ensuing free kick, Juan Camacho placed the ball in the upper right corner leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. In the 75th minute head coach Jay Gore made the best of an opportunity set up by forwards Juan Camacho and Jesus Becerra. In the 80 minute Johnny Carson stole the ball from the right defender leaving him only the goalie to beat. He beat the goalie and scored a shot from about 15 yards out. “That’s my goal” said Carson, “score one goal and contribute one assist a game.”
Brigade travel to Fresno to play Fresno Fuego Friday Night.
