The Brigade have announced today that soccer icon Eric Wynalda has been signed to play with the Brigade for the remainder of the season and will make his debut at their last home game of the season this Saturday against the LA Storm at Bakersfield Christian High School, game time is 7pm. 

 “We have a great relationship with Eric and to have him join us on the field in battle and in front of our home crowd is very, very exciting,” stated Brigade Vice President and General Manager Joe Jimenez. “The team is looking forward to this “opportunity of a lifetime” . . . a chance to play along side a player of Eric’s magnitude and to show off their skills to an individual who is so integrated with the game played today,” added Jimenez.

 Wynalda is a 3-time World Cup veteran and is currently tied with Landon Donavan for having scored the most goals (34) in US National Men’s Team play. Eric scored the very first goal in MLS history during the inaugural match in April of 1996. His goal was later honored as Goal of the Year. Eric began his professional career in 1990 while playing for the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks of the American Professional Soccer League (APSL). In 1992, Wynalda moved to Europe and played in Germany for 3 years, then returned in 1996 and joined the San Jose Clash of the MLS. Over the next several years, in addition to playing for the Clash, Wynalda played for the Miami Fusion, New England Revolution and ended his professional playing career in 2001 while being part of Chicago Fire. In 2004, Wynalda took a position with ABC and ESPN as a commentator and continues today to be a voice heard around the soccer world.
