With a record crowd of 1,675 in attendance, the Bakersfield Brigade PDL fans witnessed a Brigade arsenal that seemed never ending as the Brigade easily handled the Rattlers on Saturday and posted a 6-1 win to stay in the hunt for a potential playoff spot.
Brigade Forward Moises (Moi) Gomez had “the game” of his PDL career thus far and set a new Brigade record for most goals scored in a game by an individual player, by finding the back of the Rattlers net for a total of four times. Gomez recorded his first goal (unassisted) in the 15th minute of play as he was able to finish on a loose ball in front of the Rattler Goal. His second goal came two minutes later as fellow teammate Brigade Forward Santiago Aguilera took the defense to one side of the field then perfectly crossed the ball to a streaking Gomez who struck a firm ball into the back of the Rattler’s net for a 2-0 lead. The next goal scored was credited to the Rattlers was a Brigade “own goal.” Brigade Defender Jason Ashurst headed the ball back to his Keeper Andrew Forbes who attempted to trap the ball, missed it completely and could then do nothing but watch the ball come to a rest in the back of the Brigade net. That goal was the first and last score for the Rattlers on the evening and the Brigade went into the half with a 2-1 lead.
In the 51st minute of play, Gomez scored his third goal of the evening by taking an excellent cross from fellow Brigade Forward Ryan Gay, Gomez timed it perfectly, got parallel with the surface and headed the ball past the Rattler keeper to give the Brigade a 3-1 margin. In the 55th minute of play, Gomez and Aguilera found themselves in familiar waters and like they did in the first half, Aguilera baited the Rattler defense, crossed the ball to Gomez and Gomez finished with a brilliant upper v shot which capped off his four-goal game.
However, Aguilera wasn’t quite finished toying with the Rattler defense. In the 68th minute of play, Aguilera fed fellow Brigade Forward Mario Fernandez the ball in the middle, Fernandez struck the ball with intensity and scored the Brigade’s 5th goal of the night. With Fernandez’s goal, Aguilera was awarded his 3rd assist of the night and has now recorded a “hat trick” for both goals and assists for the season.
Finishing up the scoring for the night, two Brigade Midfielders got into scoring action with Frankie Alesci scoring his first goal of the season, while Francisco Gomez picked up the assist. The win takes the Brigade to 6-6-0 and the Rattlers to 2-13-1 in league play. The Brigade will next take on the LA Storm on Saturday 7/7/07. Kick off time of 7pm with a pregame beginning at 5pm.
