The Bakersfield Brigade Men’s PDL soccer team will be hosting the Lancaster Rattlers on Saturday at Bakersfield Christian High School. The PDL game begins at 7pm and there will be a pregame beginning at 5, with gates opening at 4:30pm.
The Lancaster Rattlers PDL team is currently 2-12-0 and will be looking to avenge a 5-1 loss to the Brigade earlier this season. The Brigade are 5-6-0 and will be looking to rebound from losses to San Fernando Quakes on June 15th and the LA Storm on June 17th. “Those were two tough losses on the road but our guys have has some much needed rest after having played 5 games in 9 days and should perform well on Saturday,” stated Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez.
Brigade Defender and Team Captain Jason Ashurst rolled his ankle shortly into the second half in the Quakes game and at the time the contest was tied at zero. The Quakes went on to win the game 3-0. Additionally, Ashurst did not play against the Storm two days after the Quakes match and the Brigade fell to the storm 5-0. However, Ashurst should be well enough to start in Saturday’s contest against the Rattlers.
Also joining Ashurst to the roster this weekend will be Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez. Gomez sustained a knee injury while playing against the Seals on May 28th which caused him to be sidelined for the past 6 games. “With Jason and Francisco back in the lineup and on the playing field, we’ll be a lot stronger in the middle and back which should provide more scoring opportunities up front,” stated Brigade Vice President Joe Jimenez. “I would imagine that our fans can expect to see some fireworks during the game, as well as after,” added Jimenez.
The Brigade organization will be conducting their annual Firework Show immediately following the PDL game. For more information please visit: http://www.bakersfieldbrigade.com or call 410-KICK.
