Brigade Hits The Road for Weekend Play
BAKERSFIELD, CA, June 14, 2007

After a 3-home game spree, the Bakersfield Brigade (5-4-0) Men’s PDL team will hit the road and head South on Friday to meet the San Fernando Valley Quakes (6-2-2) who are currently sitting alone at the top of the Southwest Division Standings.

The first place Quakes last played on June 9th where they battled the Orange County Blue Star (0-5-2)  to a 1-1 tie. The Blue Star has yet to post a win this season and came close to earning their first win against the Quakes but had to settle for their 2nd tie of the season, coincidentally both ties were with the Quakes.

“We are beginning to play unselfishly and we’re looking forward to meeting the Quakes on Friday,” stated Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez. The Brigade has been busy as they hosted the Portland Timbers this past Tuesday in the First Round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup where they lost 2-0 and were eliminated from the tournament. It was the first time the Brigade had qualified for the tournament in their three years of competing in the Premier Development League (PDL). Prior to the game with the Timbers, the Brigade hosted the San Jose Frogs on Saturday June 9th and prevailed with a 2-1 win, and then battled with the San Francisco Bay Seals the following day and won that contest as well 1-0.

“We certainly have some good chemistry on the field and the wins are a result of our team play,” stated Brigade Vice President and General Manager Joe Jimenez. “Those who saw the game on Tuesday against the Portland Timbers witnessed a team that had opportunities and who hung with the professionals, in a relatively tight game,” added Jimenez.

The Brigade will have another busy weekend as they will travel on Sunday as well, to visit the LA Storm (3-2-1). The Storm last played on June 9th and tied the Southern California Seahorses (2-4-1) 2-2.
