Brigade, Frogs, Seals . . . All looking to Rebound
BAKERSFIELD, CA, June 7, 2007

The Bakersfield Brigade Men’s PDL team will be looking for two big wins this weekend, as they play host to their Bay Area competitors the San Jose Frogs on Saturday (7pm) and the San Francisco Seals on Sunday (1pm). Both matches will be played at Bakersfield Christian High School. All three clubs are looking to rebound from home losses.

The Brigade is looking to bounce back from last weekend’s (1-0) home loss to defending Southwestern Division Champions the So. Cal. Seahorses (2-4-0), and two wins this weekend would keep them in contention to battle for the top spot in the Southwest.

The Brigade (3-4-0) has already met both teams earlier this season, playing both teams up in the “Bay Area.” The Frogs (5-2-0) were able to hold off a late surge by the Brigade in the second half of their game which was played on Saturday May 26th.  The Brigade were handed a loss by the Frogs 1-0. “The Frogs played us tough and deserved the win . . . we just weren’t able to capitalize on our opportunities, which were there,” stated Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez. The Frogs are coming off a 2-1 home loss to the San Fernando Valley Quakes, who are sitting at the top or the Southwest Division with a 6-2-1 record.

Two days later on Memorial Day, the Brigade traveled into “The City” to meet the Seals (3-3-0) and were handed their second straight road loss with a score of 2-1. The Brigade had appeared to be on the verge of making a run at tying the game but every opportunity and shot taken by the Brigade came up short. The Seals come into Bakersfield nursing a home loss over the past weekend as well, as the Quakes also handed them a 1-0 loss on Saturday June 2, just one day prior to battling with the Frogs.

With the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup tournament game scheduled for Tuesday June 12th at Bakersfield Christian High School, the Brigade will need some positive momentum going in as they play host to the Portland Timbers, a First Division Professional team of the USL. “This game is HUGE for our club and community . . .  it’s history in the making," stated Brigade General Manager Joe Jimenez. "But two wins this weekend will give us the right momentum going into Tuesday's game against the Timbers . . . it's going to be off the hook," added Jimenez
