With the weather hitting the mid-nineties and the visiting team called the Fuego, everyone coming to watch the match knew it was going to be a scorcher. The Fuego, however, couldn’t call upon the valley sun to keep them hot as the Brigade shut them down with a cool arsenal attack and some dominating defense.
First to strike was Brigade forward Santiago Aguilera. In the 10th minute of play, Brigade Defender Jason Ashurst fed a ball into the middle to a streaking Aguilera who finished it with a solid strike past an outstretch Fuego Keeper from about 15 yards out. But Aguilera wasn’t finished, nor was Ashurst. In the 30th minute of play, Ashurst took a throw in from the sideline and catapulted inside the Fuego box. The Fuego Keeper made an attempt on the ball but was unsuccessful at grabbing it; Aguilera just happened to be in the right place at the right time and booted it in the goal for his second score of the night. Aguilera played 76 mins, finished with two goals while Ashurst played all ninety and recorded two assist.
In the 76th minute of play, Brigade Forward Ryan Gay showed off his speed and touch and recorded the Brigade’s third goal of the match as he out ran the last Fuego defender and scored on a one on one with the Fuego Keeper.
“Anytime you can record a good win against a known rival, at home, is a great win,” stated Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez. “Our fans came out to see some good soccer played, I believe they went home satisfied,” added Gomez
