The Bakersfield Brigade, Bakersfield’s own Premier Development League (PDL) soccer team, announced today that they have signed Shawn Singh, a local High School athlete from Garces Memorial high School.
Shawn Singh is currently a high school senior at Garces Memorial high school and helped lead the Rams to an 18-5-5 season which resulted with Section Div. III runner up title for the 2006 season. Singh joins the Brigade this season and looks to get several minutes of play in the Brigade season opener against the Fresno Fuego on Saturday.
“Shawn brings some good, young talent to our club,” stated Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez. He’s one of my youngest players out there . . . making this squad will provide him with opportunities to grow as a player and prepare him mentally for the next level,” added Gomez.
Although the Brigade squad will be filled with many Division I & II collegiate players, the Brigade is committed to conducting “local” open tryouts each year in an effort to provide county residents an equal opportunity to make the team. Singh survived two player cuts and is now officially on the Brigade 2007 Roster.
“I’m very excited to have made the Brigade PDL team and look forward to training with Francisco and the other guys,” stated Brigade Midfielder Shawn Singh. The Brigade look to carry a squad of 15 players for their first game so chances are Shawn may see some action in the season opener.
The Bakersfield Brigade PDL Soccer Team will open their 2007 season this Saturday April 28th at Bakersfield Christian High School as they host “Valley Rival” Fresno Fuego. Game begins at 7pm and the gates will open at 4:30 with a youth pregame beginning at 5pm. First 500 fans through the gates receive a Brigade Cowbell sponsored by Career Services Center and Soccer Warehouse Plus.
