The Bakersfield Brigade and the Cal Sate Dominguez Hills Men’s Soccer Team battled Saturday night to a 1-1 tie. This was the first preseason game of the 2007 season for the Brigade. The game was played on the Brigade’s home field at Bakersfield Christian High School in front of nearly 300 fans who would not be turned away by the cold and rainy weather. “We were real happy with the turn out of fans for tonight’s game, especially for not advertising the game and playing under these weather conditions,” stated Brigade General Manager Joe Jimenez.

Dominguez Hills scored in the first half of play when Forward Sammy Rivas rolled a ball passed an outstretched Brigade keeper. The shot was not hit very hard, but well enough to score in the 34th minute of play. The Brigade answered back and tied the game with a great shot by Brigade Forward Santiago Aguilar from about 25 yards out which was well placed at the far post in the 81st minute of play. Matt O’Sullivan recorded the assist on the play. “This game was important to me to see just who really wants to be part of our 2007 squad,” stated Brigade Head Coach Francisco Gomez. “The team played ok, but we need to be better at getting to the ball first,” added Gomez

The Brigade traveled to the coast on Sunday and played Cal Poly State University San Luis Obispo in their 2nd preseason game of 2007. The Brigade failed to score in the contest and gave up 2 scores to SLO.

Next, the Brigade will play UC Santa Barbara on Saturday April 21st at Cal Sate University Bakersfield to wrap up their 2007 preseason schedule. On Saturday April 28th the Brigade will meet “Valley Rival” Fresno Fuego in their 2007 Season Home Opener. The first 500 fans in the gates will receive a 2007 Brigade Cow Bell.
