The Bakersfield Brigade,
Bakersfield’s own Premier Development League (PDL) soccer team, announced today that Training for the 2007 season has officially begun.
On Monday March 19th, Francisco Gomez conducted his first training session as Brigade Head Coach. Last season Francisco joined the Brigade as a player and played in the Brigade’s last four games and contributed 4 goals to the cause. This season, he’s taken the top role on the field and brings a positive attitude and lots of experience that players in this league can only dream of, that is for now anyway.
“My goal is to prepare these young men and get them drafted into Professional Soccer,” stated Gomez. “With fitness, discipline and heart, their dreams can come true just like mine did,” added Gomez.
Currently, there are twenty-two players who have been invited to the Brigade’s training sessions which are taking place Monday thru Thursday at
Liberty
Park . The Brigade are in the process of registering their first three players to their official 2007 roster, but can not release the names until they have been cleared by the USL (United Soccer Leagues), which should happen by the end of the week.
“We’re right on track and where we need to be for our upcoming season,” stated Brigade Vice President Joe Jimenez. “Francisco is doing a great job recruiting players and he knows exactly what he needs to win at this level,” added Jimenez
The Brigade will open up their 2007 season at home with a friendly scrimmage on April 14th against Cal State Dominguez Hills Men’s soccer team. And will host the Fresno Fuego on April 28th to officially start the 2007 season.
