05-17-06 Gookins Named to the PDL Team of the Week
BAKERSFIELD, CA, May 17, 2006
The Bakersfield Brigade, Bakersfield’s own Premier Development League (PDL) soccer team, announced today that Defender, Kyle Gookins was named to the Premier Development League Team of the Week for his performance against the San Diego Gauchos on May 6. Gookins helped lead the Brigade to a 3-1 win in their season opener with a stellar defensive effort and a goal to open the scoring for his team.
“It is definitely an honor to be grouped with such a high caliber of players as the PDL Team of the Week,” stated Brigade player, Kyle Gookins. “I really didn’t expect to get any individual honors from a game that I felt was truly a great team performance” added Gookins. Kyle was the only Brigade player named to the Team of the Week and one of only three players named from the Southwestern Conference.
The Brigade is home to the Los Angeles Storm on Saturday, May 20 at 7:00 pm. The game will be held at Bakersfield Christian High School (on the corner of Stockdale Hwy. and Allen Rd.). The Bakersfield Brigade Soccer Club, playing within the United Soccer Leagues’ PDL Southwestern Conference is made up of nine teams throughout California.
