The Bakersfield Brigade have announced today that they have signed 3 players from

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s NCAA Division I soccer program. Midfielders Todd Combs and Jean Carlos Reyes, as well as Forward Marcus Griffin, will join the Brigade squad for the 2006 campaign. “Our geographic locations make San Luis Obispo and Bakersfield natural partners,” stated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s Head Coach Paul Holocher. “We foresee a bright future of player development between us and the Brigade,” added Holocher.

“Marcus has unbelievable pace and should benefit greatly from his experience with the Brigade this summer,” stated Holocher. Marcus Griffin tallied 7 goals and 2 assists as a freshman last season. “We are very excited to have Marcus join us this season,” stated Brigade Head Coach Jay Gore. “Marcus will provide strength and dept at the forward position,” added Gore.

“(Jean) Carlos Reyes is a very tenacious and hard-working player out of midfield,” stated Holocher. Reyes started 6 matches as a sophomore last season for Cal Poly. “Reyes will bring some composure and much needed defensive to the midfield,” stated Gore.

“Todd is an outside midfielder with an uncanny ability to get by defenders. His experience with the Brigade will give him valuable experience to add to his natural soccer talent,” stated Holocher. Todd Combs played in 3 matches as a sophomore for Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
“We expect a great partnership between Cal Poly and the Brigade” stated Jay Gore. “Our goal is to aid them in the development of their players and in return, acquire a few talented players for our squad each year,” added Gore.
The Brigade is a PDL soccer team, playing within the United Soccer Leagues’ PDL Southwestern Conference which is made up of nine teams throughout California.
